If you love card games like Solitaire and Freecell, Solitaire Cube will be right up your alley. Plus, you can win real cash when you play.
Would you believe someone won $380,934 playing games on their phone?
According to this app, one of its top performers, Katie Nguyen, did just that¹.
There's actually an app that pays you to play card games like Solitaire and FreeCell to win money.
Even as the unemployment rate seesaws, some people are harnessing the power of technology for a chance to win money playing classic games like Solitaire.
Say hello to Solitaire Cube.
What is Solitaire Cube?
Solitaire Cube is an app for the phone designed by Tether Studios and part of the Skillz eSports platform of games. It works like regular Klondike Solitaire games, except on this app, you compete against others for cash, and the game moves much faster. Small touches like animations, touch controls, and leaderboards create an interesting gameplay loop with which players can make money online.
Users enter multiplayer tournaments against other players, with winners taking home cash prizes. Solitaire Cube hosts tournaments from $10 up to thousands of dollars per entry.
To begin, players are matched to those with similar skills, so you have a chance to beat your opponent in a fair match.
How does Solitaire Cube work?
Solitaire Cube is available on iOS and Android through the Galaxy Store, or you can download the game directly from the Skillz website. It is worth noting that the version available on Google Play is a single-player game where there aren't any real-money tournaments.
You’ll automatically be set up with an account on your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone to start playing some practice games, which will gauge your skill levels.
You’ll play as you would in
traditional Solitaire, creating rows of ascending cards, except in this version, the cards do not need to be in the same suit unless you have selected the Ace card foundation. You’ll have 5 minutes set on a timer to complete your game. The game will alert you if you run out of moves, allowing you to end your game and receive bonus points. If you win your game in less than 5 minutes, you’ll receive bonus points, earning more the faster you win.
Free games (practice league)
Free games can be found in the Practice League. You can build your skills here by playing as many free games as possible. My first practice match didn’t go so well. As the app kept reminding me, not all games can be won, and I got stuck and had to finish. I did get bonus points for finishing early. My second-place showing earned me one Ticketz and 25 Z Coins. With this winning, I had enough to continue: 1 Z Coin was required to enter another game, where I would compete to win 2 Z Coins.
As the
game is powered by Skillz games, you’ll receive its virtual currency known as Z Coins and rewards Ticketz for wins. Use your Z Coins to play in more matches for free and collect your Ticketz to redeem for real prizes like home goods, clothing, electronics, and more. I was eyeing the Cuisinart Fondue Pot, which required 1.9 million Ticketz to redeem — but I was well aware that it would take me a lot of games to get to that prize!
After my second game, I had to wait for a player to be matched to my game, so I didn’t immediately win or lose. I was stuck again and ended my game quickly, but my eventual competitor could also get stuck and end with fewer points earned from moving cards. I could enable push notifications to get an alert when my game was complete. However, I was able to continue playing in more competitions.
Real money games (pro league)
If you want to
play solitaire for real money, move into the Pro League. This requires a cash deposit to enter tournaments where you will compete with other players, and winners win the pot. You need to ante up to compete and use your skills to outwit and outplay the other competitor to win. These tournaments can get big. For example, Skillz is renowned for running big cash tournaments across its gaming apps, ranging from 21 Blitz to Big Buck Hunter, including a New Year's Eve
Blackout Bingo tournament with a $750,000 prize pool. With Solitaire Cube, winning up to $1,000 in two minutes is possible.
Solitaire Cube gives you a free cash bonus for signing up and making the first deposit. For example, if you deposit $10, they will match you and deposit an additional $10.
As a Rookie, there is a $10 competition, so you don’t have to join big games,
Keep an eye out in the app for any deals they have! When you deposit some cash, you can double your money!
How much does Solitaire Cube cost?
It’s absolutely free to play
Solitaire Cube without entering competitions. It will take some time to earn Ticketz for wins, but for anyone already spending lots of time playing games on their phones that don’t offer prizes, it’s a good idea to switch.
The minimum deposit to have on your account is $10. The app accepts transfers via credit card, Apple Pay, and your PayPal account.
Solitaire Cube features
Real cash
Of course, the best feature is an opportunity to win real money. Katie Nguyen¹, for example, found out how real it is when she won nearly $400,000. This may not always be the norm, however. Real earnings will likely be smaller, but it is possible to win a couple hundred dollars to thousands a week, depending on how much you play and how skilled you get.
Real prizes
The swag prizes available work just as they would if you were in an arcade. The smallest prizes aren’t too interesting, but the bigger prizes on the top shelves will be — it’s just going to take a lot of play to get there. Still, with the hours of CandyCrush I’ve played without any prizes, I am up to the challenge.
Bonus Cash
Now, here's where the Ticketz turns into free money: You can receive bonus cash for your Ticketz, which helps you enter competitions for real cash.
20,000 Ticketz = $1
35,000 Ticketz = $2
80,000 Ticketz = $5
150,000 Ticketz = $10
280,000 Tickets = $20
1,250,000 Ticketz - $100
Who is Solitaire Cube best for?
Gamers
I'm always playing Solitaire when I'm waiting around, like getting an oil change or sitting at the airport, and for anyone else killing time on their phones, why not earn some coin while doing it?
While you might not be able to quit your day job, you could earn enough to splurge on a nice dinner and drinks. And if you become really skilled, you might be able to earn even more.
Solitaire Cube vs. competitors
Solitaire Cash
A similar real-cash and real-prizes Solitaire game is Solitaire Cash, which is also available only on iOS. Papaya Gaming offers this game, and instead of winning Ticketz, it offers gems and works similarly.
Blackout Bingo
Another game by Skillz provides a spin on Bingo, where you can also win free prizes and enter big tournaments for real money.
Blackout Bingo works similarly, where you can play for free and earn Z Coins and Ticketz, or, for real money prizes, you can compete in cash tournaments.
Swagbucks
Swagbucks is another way to earn money on your mobile device, although it does not offer fun games.
tip: Install a Skillz app and use the code JOYWALLET to receive a $5 bonus cash on your first cash game.
FAQs
Is Solitaire Cube really free?
Yes! You do not have to enter any paid competitions to play.

You can play for fun anywhere. But as of now, cash tournaments are not offered in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
